A Beginner's Guide To Using Dermablend

Looking at the finished results, you might think it takes expert application to get great results with Dermablend. But it’s actually a simple one-two-three process. You don’t need any special tools or experience to create light-weight, natural-looking coverage. You can find your ideal shade of Dermablend fluid foundation or cream-stick foundation (or both) at a Dermablend counter near you – our experts will help you find the right shade for your skintone.

Then you’re ready to cover, blend and set…

Cover

For high coverage, your best choice is Dermablend cream-stick foundation, which has the highest concentration of pigment. If you don’t need as much coverage, Dermablend fluid foundation is for you. Start with a small amount of the product – you can always build up more later, as Dermablend is designed for layering. Start from the middle of your face and work outwards. To get an even tone, apply the foundation to your whole face, not just on the place you want to cover.

Blend

To get a really natural-looking finish, you’ll need to blend the foundation into your skin. You can use a brush or a sponge if you like, but just using clean fingertips will give you a great result. Make sure you blend well around your hairline and your jaw so the makeup fades seamlessly into the skin, and use a gentle touch around the delicate eye area. If you accidentally cover your lips, you can tidy up using a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover. If you need extra coverage in a particular area, you can add another layer of colour and blend again until you are happy with the results.

Set

To get the full benefits of a water-and-smudge-resistant finish, the final step is to set the foundation using Dermablend Setting powder. This will give you a 16-hour hold, with no fading away or smudging off on clothing. The powder is transparent so there’s no need to pick a matching shade. It comes with a powder puff inside the pot. Use this to apply a light covering of powder by pressing the puff against the skin and using a rolling motion. Repeat this all over your face to get a velvety smooth finish.
