Keep out of the sun
As chemical peels remove the top layer of dead, damaged skin, it’s really important to protect what’s been revealed underneath. Sun and UV exposure can be damaging to all skin types at the best of times, but post-procedure your skin is at its most vulnerable. In the first few days after a treatment, your skin will be very sensitive and it’s advised not to use topical products including SPF protection. To allow your skin to heal properly, it’s best to rest and recharge inside and stay out of the sun completely.
Choose a gentle moisturiser or serum
Resurfacing treatments are known for leaving skin dry and dehydrated. Regularly applying a moisturiser throughout the day can help to nourish and soothe healing skin though. As the last thing your delicate skin needs right now is a moisturiser that can cause further irritation, it’s important to avoid strong acids and ingredients like retinol. Opt for gentle creams and skincare ampoules instead in the weeks following any treatments. Post-procedure skin needs hydrating ingredients and antioxidants like vitamin E, C and A, shea butter and hyaluronic acid that help to soothe inflammation and prevent water loss.
