Lift the face with a dab of cream blusher. I recommend a cream blusher rather than a powder, as these can be too iridescent which is ageing on mature complexions.
The hormonal shifts during menopause can create havoc with the skin, resulting in breakouts, redness and dullness. Professional makeup artist for Vichy, Claire Ray shares her top tips for making menopausal skin look healthy and beautiful.
Cleanse and exfoliate your skin
A regular cleansing routine rids the skin of debris and dead skin, while exfoliating stimulates the blood supply to the skin. This helps to restore lustre and radiance, and creates the perfect base for the rest of your skincare regime.
Moisturise daily
The complexion often becomes dry during the menopause, so it’s important to use a specialist moisturiser that treats the specific needs of your skin. I recommend Vichy's Neovadiol Compensating Complex Day Cream as it will help to boost the skin's volume, make the skin feel fuller and restore the appearance of radiance and comfort due to a unique complex of ingredients.
Apply sun protection daily
It’s advisable that you apply a high-factor sunscreen every day, as this will help protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Apply it beneath after your usual moisturiser and before your makeup.
Choose the right make up
During the menopause, it is important to use makeup that will stay in place all day and that also helps to care for skin
First of all, I like to use Dermablend Corrective Fluid Foundaction because it covers rosacea and blemishes. Apply it using a foundation brush as this will help you achieve natural looking coverage. Hot flushes and perspiration are common during the menopause, and both can prove challenging for foundation's staying power. Combat this with a light dusting of Dermablend Loose Setting Powder along the T-zone.
If you have dark circles beneath the eyes, I recommend concealing them with the Dermablend Corrective Stick. This is really moisturising, so it's fantastic if you're experiencing very dry skin as it won't emphasise fine lines. It's also a good idea to use waterproof mascara and eyeliner to prevent smudges if you do become hot. When applying eyeliner, make sure you get to the base of the lashes and massage the pencil in to make the lashes appear fuller.
Lift the face with a dab of cream blusher. I recommend a cream blusher rather than a powder, as these can be too iridescent which is ageing on mature complexions.
Finally, add a touch of tinted balm to the lips, as this will add a pop of colour and won't bleed into the lines around the lips.
