How to create an Anti-Ageing Skincare Plan

With so many products out there, it’s hard to know what kind of skincare regime will best target wrinkles and crows’ feet. Here’s our guide to your essential anti-ageing plan…
How to create an Anti-Ageing Skincare Plan

Some facialists think that toning is unnecessary, but a high-quality toner will help unclog pores and leave them looking tighter. This is especially important if you’re prone to blackheads or blemishes.

Go into any pharmacy or department store and you’ll find row upon row of anti-ageing products. But which ones are vital, and which are simply unnecessary extras? If you’re looking to put in place an effective anti-ageing plan, here’s exactly what you need to do:

In the morning

Have a skincare regime that you follow every morning. It doesn’t need to take long, but should always include the following steps:

1. Cleanse
The cornerstone to any skincare routine. A good cleanser will remove make-up and grime, and leave your skin feeling fresh and soft. Use a cleanser designed for your skin type – whether that’s oily, dry or combination. The right cleanser will also exfoliate, sloughing off dead skin cells and leaving you with a smoother, brighter complexion.

2. Tone
Some facialists think that toning is unnecessary, but a high-quality toner will help unclog pores and leave them looking tighter. This is especially important if you’re prone to blackheads or blemishes.
3. Apply a serum
Anti-ageing serums have really taken off in recent years, and with good reason. Serums offer intensive hydration and leave the skin feeling smoother and more comfortable. They’re great for sensitive, dehydrated skin.

4. Moisturise
Use a reliable daily moisturiser to help reinforce the skin’s natural barrier and leave it feeling smooth and hydrated.

5. Treat your eyes
If your eyes are looking puffy, take a bag of frozen peas, wrap it in a light towel and hold it against the eye area. The cold should help to reduce any puffiness. Afterwards, apply an eye cream to reduce dark circles and target crows’ feet and wrinkles.

6. Apply sun protection
Sun protection is a must, even in cloudy weather. This is because the sun’s UVA rays (the ones that cause premature skin ageing) can still damage the skin when it’s overcast. They can even penetrate glass. So look for a sun cream that offers broad-spectrum (in other words, both UVA and UVB) protection.

In the evening

Your night routine will be similar to your morning routine, but with a couple of key differences:

At night you’ll need a cleanser that’s also effective at removing make-up. Try a 3-in-1 solutionthat cleanses, removes make-up and also purifies the skin.
To speed up the process, you ideally want one that you don’t have to rinse off afterwards.

It also pays to use a richer night cream in the evenings. This will nourish your skin while you sleep, leaving it feeling smooth and hydrated in the morning.
