How to care for your skin during pregnancy

Find out how to safely care for your skin during pregnancy and the minimalist formulas that will maintain your glow.

Dry skin during pregnancy

If your skin feels dry and sensitive, you may need to add some extra hydration to your normal everyday routine. If you’re unsure of where to start, look for formulas that include ingredients such as Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid as they are super hydrating while also being gentle.

A serum such as Minéral 89 has a minimalist formula that will help to hydrate the skin with Vichy’s highest ever concentration of Mineralizing Water and Hyaluronic Acid. It also helps to protect the skin from aggressors in the environment such as pollution and UV and goes on really nicely beneath your usual moisturiser or can be worn alone as a primer for makeup. You can then follow this with a really nourishing moisturiser from our Aqualia Thermal range that’s specifically designed for dehydrated skin. Choose between our light and rich formulas to provide the skin with up to 48 hours of comfort and hydration.

Oily skin and blemishes during pregnancy

During pregnancy your body releases more progesterone in order to help line the uterus. This in turn can lead to the production of excess sebum and oil in the skin, causing the pores to become clogged and spots and even blemishes to form. This can be quite a shock especially if your skin was mainly clear before pregnancy and leads many women to feel low in confidence.

The best way of managing a skin change such as this is with a cleanser designed to combat blemishes and control excess sebum such as Normaderm’s Purifying Cleansing gel. Follow this with a gentle yet oil-regulating moisturiser such as Normaderm’s Phytosolution Double Correction Daily Care Moisturiser. Its gentle formula contains dermatological ingredients such as salicylic acid (at 2%) and hyaluronic acid and helps exfoliate away dead skin cells, clear pores and will leave the skin hydrated.

Of course, you should always consult with your doctor or dermatologist before embarking on any new skincare routine while pregnant.
