Why Dandruff is Normal
Visible dandruff is a common phenomenon and occurs in people of all ages and genders. It is by no means a sign of poor hygiene and is usually the result of many external and internal factors. Dandruff is dead skin cells that are shed from the scalp as part of the skin's renewal process. This process is as natural as it is important so that fresh skin cells can move to the surface of the scalp.
However, it can start to become noticeable when the skin cells on the scalp renew themselves faster than usual. This can be due to hormonal fluctuations, unsuitable hair care products or environmental factors such as changes in the weather. No matter the cause, having dandruff and a flaky scalp is perfectly normal and nothing to be ashamed of.
Dandruff can still bother us in everyday life and sometimes affect our wellbeing, mood and feelings about appearance, but luckily there are things you can do to help a flaky scalp and fight dandruff.
